Today, we are so busy that we rarely take the time to relax. We surely don’t have much time to clean. I don’t know about you, but when my home is in shambles I can’t function. I associate a clean house with a relaxing atmosphere. Somewhere between work, school, family, extra-curricular activities, and events, we have to fit in cleaning. I thought I would share a few cleaning tips that help keep my house looking decent while my schedule is full.

1. Music

Music sets the tone for cleaning. Singing and dancing to the music make cleaning go by so fast. Play your favorite songs and get lost in the music while making your home tidy. Any type of music that you love will work. I tend to listen to upbeat music while cleaning because it motivates me to get things done. Right now, Amazon is offering a 30 day free trial for Amazon Prime Music. You are sure to find music that you love here and stream it ad-free while you clean.

2. Make Up The Bed

Making up the bed is essential to keeping a room clean with a busy schedule. A made bed makes the room appear clean without any additional effort. I know that a lot of people do not make their beds because they feel like they will just mess it up again that night. While this is true, it will not help your room look clean. A good practice is to make your bed as soon as your feet hit the floor each morning. The trick to this is to use bedding that you love and that makes the room look nice. This will encourage you to make the bed to pull the room together each day.

3. Clean In 15 Minute Increments

Cleaning is easier if it is broken up into smaller increments. Instead of saying “I have to clean this whole house“, try “I’m going to work on my room for 15 minutes“. You would be surprised at how much you can accomplish in this small amount of time. I like to turn on some upbeat music and set my timer for 15 minutes. When the timer goes off, I take a 10-minute break and then move to the next room for 15 minutes. Depending on the amount of time that I have available, I may spend an hour total doing these intervals. It makes a huge difference.

4. Create Routines

This is and easy way to keep track of what you would like to clean each day. An example of a routine would be to spend 30 minutes in one room of your house each day. Depending on the size of your home, you could make it around the whole house in about a week. The way to make routines work is to find one that works for you and the people that live in your home. If you only have 15 minutes per day, then create your routine around 15-minute tasks that you can complete each day. There are no rules for routines, just take your time.

5. Do Not Beat Yourself Up

If you do not clean your whole house in one day, it is perfectly fine. Depending on the condition of your home, complete cleaning may take time. Try setting aside 30-45 minutes per day to clean a section of your home. If you do not finish the complete section, do not beat yourself up about it. Praise yourself for the work that you have actually completed and pick up with this section again tomorrow. It is perfectly fine to take multiple days per room. Eventually, you will make it through your whole house.

The main thing with cleaning with a busy schedule is to take your time. You do not want to be overwhelmed by attempting to clean everything in a short amount of time. It is fine to work in sections. As long as you remind your family (and yourself) to put things back where they came from after a section has been cleaned, the cleaning process gets easier and easier. You can spend less time in each room if everyone does their part. Be proud of the progress that you make each day and eventually cleaning in a short amount of time will become a habit.

  1. The best thing I have learned about cleaning is to simply pick up after yourself immediately. Clean the kitchen immediately, etc. Then when it comes to actual house cleaning all you have to do is vacuum, mop, dust, and scrub the toilet. Thanks for sharing.
