Life gets crazy and sometimes we feel that we can’t take it anymore. In those times, we just simply need to be encouraged. The definition of the word encourage is to give support, confidence, or hope to someone. Being encouraged is important because it reminds us that we can make it and that we are here for a reason. This reminder typically comes from family and friends, but it can also come from a stranger or even yourself. Today, I’m going to share three quick tips with you help you stay encouraged.
1. Stay Positive
Staying positive may be the hardest thing to do when you are discouraged or feel defeated. It is so hard to stay positive when you can’t see the light at the end of the tunnel. It is even harder for someone with conditions like depression and anxiety.
A good practice for staying in a positive mindset is to stop watching the news. The media rarely reports good news. You can also check out the post that I wrote about changing your mindset. Lastly, read You’ll Get Through This by Max Lucado. This book is full of encouraging words to get you through turbulent times.
The main thing to remember is to stop creating “what if” scenarios in your mind. These will have you thinking that the world is ending tomorrow. The alternative is to only think of things that are good and make you happy.
2. Encourage Others
A great way to stay encouraged is to encourage others. You never know what someone else may be going through on any given day. A kind word from you could be the thing they need to keep them going that day.
Today, as you walk down the street or through the hallway, make sure to smile. Your smile can encourage people in more ways than you think. We have gotten so accustomed to walking around deep in thought that we forget to interact with those around us.
In the moment, you never realize the effect that you have on others. Encouragement to others can come in the form of kind words or a warm smile. Whatever it is, make sure it comes from your heart. People are able to tell when you are not being sincere.
3. Encourage Yourself
When you are feeling down or inadequate, it is almost impossible to tell yourself that you can get through this. While it may be hard, this is exactly what you need to do. If you don’t believe in yourself, who will?
It will be very difficult, but somewhere inside of you, you can muster up the strength to say “I can do this” or “I can get through this”. Once you believe the words that you have spoken to yourself, your mindset will change and you will be ready to face whatever comes your way.
Encouragement is a way for us to build ourselves and each other up. When we are encouraged, we have hope. We know that we can face our issues head on and conquer life.
I feel that it is fitting to end this post by encouraging you. I want you to know that you are awesome. You can overcome anything that is presented to you. Things that you experience in life will make you stronger in the end. Look up, take a moment to breathe, and face life head on.
