Do you often take the time to just look up and enjoy the scenery? The world around us is so beautiful. Life gets so hectic that nature becomes just the background for our lives. This is a problem. Before the land was developed as it is now, people actually cherished the trees and mountains. They lived in the midst of nature and used it for nourishment. Now, when it rains it is an inconvenience because we can’t do the things that we have planned for the day.

Psalm 121:1-2 I lift up my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.

My friend’s daughter has the whole thing completely figured out. The other day she asked her mom if she saw the birds while they were driving. Next, she proceeded to ask her mom to turn off the radio and let down the windows so she could hear the birds sing. This was so precious to me. The conversation ended with her asking her mom if she thought we would make God happy if we were happy and sang like birds everyday. I think we could all take a lesson from this child. Birds do not fly around wondering what they need to do or eat tomorrow. They just live and trust that everything will be provided for them.

If we were to live our lives like the birds, we would look up at the sky and the clouds and know that we are here for a reason. Nature can help us fulfill our purpose while nourishing our bodies with vitamins and minerals that we cannot create in a lab. The best foods for our bodies come from the ground. This should tell us something. We should stop worrying and look around at the mountains and the clouds. The sunshine and the rain should be appreciated because they are good for us as well.

Look Up

The scripture Psalm 121:1-2 is very powerful. It is a reminder to stop and look up. Day to day life moves so fast these days that we get lost. The things that are going on in our lives as well and the things going on around us consumes us. Sometimes the best therapy is spending time outside. We have to understand that there is always a calm center in each storm. The rainbow always comes after the rain. Our troubles will not always be here. There will be better days. We should just take our time daily and look up.

Question of the day: Have you taken the time to look up today?
